You have just had a new tar driveway installed. Congratulations! If it was professionally laid it’s bound to last many years and increase your property’s value. Here are some tips to maintain your tar driveway.
Once the contractors have completed the driveway be sure to not drive any vehicles over the surface for at least 24 – 48 hours depending on weather conditions. Your contractor will be able to advise you on the best curing time. Try to ensure that for at least a few months that your vehicles wheels are moving when you are turning the car on the surface. Try to avoid parking your vehicle in the same spot every day. Avoid resting sharp objects such as bicycle or trailer stands on the new surface. This will help to avoid causing any small holes to develop. Newly laid tar is more flexible than an older surface and takes time to cure or harden completely.
Your brand new driveway will not need to be resealed for 2 to 3 years so be sure to clean any oil spills or marks timeously to keep your driveway looking neat and new. You can clean the surface of stains by sprinkling a mild soap or detergent over the oil and use a broom and water to scrub the stains off. Sweep your driveway regularly to get rid of leaves and dirt.
Caring for your new tar driveway will ensure that it lasts many years and will not need costly repairs in the future.
